Cory Roberts, better known by his pen name Samurai Cory (stylized as samuraiCORY), is an American freelance illustrator, manga artist, and character designer. His work is heavily influenced by shonen anime and manga from the 1990s to today, as well as street/skater culture, 1990s, and Y2K aesthetics. The samurai in Samurai Cory is not a title, but a part of his pen name.
He hates to use Wacom tablets, but is always using XP-Pen Artist Display tablets which are cheaper than the Wacom Cintiq. He typically wears 1990s/Y2K clothing, including ultra baggy clothing, T-shirts from anime, manga, video games, western animation, tube socks, and either Vans, Adidas, or Nike sneakers. He also hates being single (he’s straight). He also never had any formal education in art, but was entirely self-taught, and has been reading how-to-draw manga books since he was a teenager, along with watching various anime series (Pokémon, Tenchi Muyo!, Dragon Ball...) as well as video games that he used to play since he had a PlayStation and a Sega Dreamcast since he was young. His name (when translated) is written in Japanese katakana as "サムライコーリー " or "チェスター・ロバーツ2世".
For more than two decades he ran the now-defunct video game community called Video Game World. He is also trilingual, as he speaks English, Spanish, and Japanese.
